Softball Splits a Pair of One-Run Games with Arkansas Tech on Tuesday

SEARCY  – The 3rd-ranked Harding softball team split a Great American Conference doubleheader with Arkansas Tech on Tuesday. The Lady Bisons dropped the first game 2-1 and won the second game 2-1 by an Autumn Humes walk-off hit.

The Lady Bisons move their record to 43-5 overall and 33-3 in the GAC. Arkansas Tech moves to 30-18 overall and 24-12 in the GAC.

After picking up two wins at Arkansas Tech on April 4 (4-3, 1-0), Harding wins the series 3-1.

Harding remains in first place in the GAC standings with an eight game lead over second place Southern Arkansas. The Lady Bisons have already sealed up a spot in the GAC Tournament held May 4-6 in Bentonville, Ark.

 
Game One Key Innings (Arkansas Tech 2, #3 Harding 1)

-         After three scoreless innings, Arkansas Tech broke the tie in the fourth inning off three hits. Ashton Sangster hit a single through the left side to drive in Jalissa Gum.

-         The Golden Suns scored their second run in the fifth inning off three hits. Megan Goodnight hit a single down the third base line to score Cara Tolar from second.

-         Harding got a run back in the fifth when Alexus Lawellin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.


Game One Key Statistics

-         Harding had three hits in the game by three different players.

-         Arkansas Tech had seven hits in the game with Jalissa Gum and Megan Goodnight each going 2-for-4.

-         Each team left seven runners on base.

-         Jalissa Gum received the win and improves to 14-9 on the season. She threw the complete game, gave up three hits, walked four and struck out nine.

-         Hannah Johnson got the loss and falls to 20-3 on the season. She pitched 6 1/3 innings, gave up seven hits and two earned runs. She also walked one and struck out four.

 
Game Two Key Innings (#3 Harding 2, Arkansas Tech 1)

-         Arkansas Tech made it a 1-0 game in the top of the first when Gaby Vasquez scored on a wild pitch.

-         Harding got on the board in the second inning when Amanda Berry singled back to the pitcher with runners at first and second. Kimmy Hendricks-Campbell scored on the play on a throwing error by the pitcher.

-         With the bases loaded and one out, Autumn Humes took a 2-0 pitch down the right field line to knock in Courtney Derrick from third for the winning run.

 
Game Two Key Statistics

-         Harding had five hits in the game but five different players.

-         Arkansas Tech had four hits by four different players.

-         Harding left 10 on base and Arkansas Tech left seven.

-         Autumn Humes got the win for Harding to improve to 22-1 on the season. She threw her 20th complete game, gave up four hits, one earned run, walked four and struck out nine.

-         Cara Tolar received the loss for Arkansas Tech and falls to 5-5 on the season. She gave up five hits, no earned runs, walked three and struck out two.

-         The Lady Bisons will continue GAC action this weekend when it travels to Monticello, Arkansas to take on Arkansas-Monticello in a four-game series. First pitch is schedule for Friday at 1 p.m.
