DURANT, Okla. – The 16th-ranked Harding softball team won both games of the doubleheader at Southeastern Oklahoma Saturday to even the Great American Conference series at two apiece. The Lady Bisons won 5-4 and 3-1. Southeastern Oklahoma won both games Friday.
Harding improves to 25-9 overall and 17-7 in the GAC.
Southeastern Oklahoma falls to 23-14 overall and 17-7 in the GAC.
Harding, Southeastern Oklahoma and Arkansas Tech are all tied for second in the GAC standings. Arkansas Tech won three out of four at East Central this weekend.
Game One Key Innings (Harding 5, Southeastern Oklahoma 4)
- Harding took a 1-0 lead in to the top of the first when Briley Feringa hit a single to center field that scored Katlyn Gordon.
- Southeastern tied the game in the second when Kennedy Salyers doubled to right field that scored Kendyl Dockter.
- The Lady Bisons took the lead in the fourth when Katlyn Gordon singled up the middle to score Lindsey Duncan.
- The Savage Storm tied the game in the bottom of the inning and then took a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning.
- Harding took the lead for good in the top of the seventh on three hits. After a lead-off double by Katlyn Gordon, Amanda Fields hit a double to left for the first run. After a line out, Madison Leggett hit a two-run home run to center field to give the Lady Bisons the lead. It was her sixth home run of the season.
Game One Key Statistics
- Harding had 11 hits with Katlyn Gordon going 3-for-4 with a RBI and two runs. Briley Fergina, Madison Leggett and Kyndal Pirtle each had two hits.
- Southeastern had six hits with Elexis Watson leading the way with two.
- Each team left eight runners on base.
- Emma Dwyer got the win for Harding in 2 1/3 innings of relief. She gave up one earned run and had a strikeout. She improves to 10-3 on the season. Amanda Berry came in to get the last two outs to pick up her third save of the season.
- Kelsey Meeks pitched seven innings and received the loss and falls to 19-8.
Game Two Key Innings (Harding 3, Southeastern Oklahoma 1)
- Harding again took an early lead in the first of a RBI single by Amanda Fields.
- Southeastern tied the game in the bottom of the inning off two hits.
- The Lady Bisons took a 2-1 lead in the second when Madi Trump hit a double to right center that scored Kyndal Pirtle from first.
- Harding scored its final run in the third when Amanda Fields hit a lead-off homer to left field. It was her second of the season.
Game Two Key Statistics
- Harding had seven hits with Amanda Fields and Madison Leggett each having two.
- Southeastern had four hits by three different players. Keeshia Thompson went 2-for-3 for the Savage Storm.
- Amanda Berry picked up the win to improve to 8-4 on the season. It was her sixth complete game. She gave up one earned run and had one strikeout.
- Emily Cudd, the starter, received the loss in 1 2/3 innings of work.
