Takanashi Clinches Harding Women's Tennis Comeback Victory

SEARCY – For the second straight year, Harding women's tennis lost all three doubles matches at home to Arkansas-Fort Smith, only to come back and win five singles contests and take the match 5-4.

The clinching point came from junior Arisa Takanashi at No. 1 singles. Takanashi broke a 4-4 tie by winning 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, her team-leading 16th singles win of the season.

All three doubles matches were close Tuesday, but Harding found itself in a 3-0 hole.

Then the singles wins started rolling in, and it was Harding's seniors that pulled the Lady Bisons back. The trio of Emily Faulkner, Laura Golubic and Gabriella Alves, honored prior to their last home match, scored Harding's next three points.

Faulkner won when UAFS's Tristen Brunson retired with an injury. Last season, when Harding came back to defeat UAFS, Faulkner won the clinching match over Brunson in three sets.

Golubic won her third straight match 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2, and Alves won her 14th singles match 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3.

???????UAFS won at No. 4 singles and led 4-3 until freshman Paulina Kostka knotted the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6.

Harding returns to Great American Conference play Thursday, taking on Arkansas Tech in Russellville, Arkansas.
