Softball Defeats Henderson State Late Friday; Advances to Play Southern Arkansas Saturday

BENTONVILLE, AR – The No. 6 seeded Harding softball team defeated No. 4 seed Henderson State 6-2 in an elimination game in the Great American Conference Tournament Friday at the Tiger Athletic Complex. The Lady Bisons advance to face top seeded and seventh-ranked Southern Arkansas at 1:30 p.m., Saturday.

Harding improves to 32-25 overall.

Henderson State falls to 33-25.

Key Innings

-         Harding scored first in the top of the first when Peyton Mills hit a double to left field that scored Madi Trump from second.

-         Henderson State answered back with a run in the bottom of the inning when Bethany Allen Scored on the suicide squeeze bunt by Madi Green.

-         The Lady Bisons broke the game open in the fourth scoring three runs on five hits and a Henderson State error. Amanda Fields singled in the first run, Hannah Fisher hit a bunt single that scored a run and Kyndal Pirtle singled down the left field line for a run.

-         Harding added two more runs in the fifth when Katlyn Gordon hit a single up the middle to score Madison Leggett and Briley Feringa.

-         The Reddies added its final run in the sixth when Alexia Lopez hit a solo home run to right center.

Key Statistics

-         Harding had 10 hits in the game with Madison Leggett and Katlyn Gordon each having two.

-         Henderson State had six hits with Bethany Allen leading the way with two.

-         Each team had two errors in the game.

-         Amanda Berry picked up her second win and second complete game of the tournament. She improves to 12-7. It was her eighth complete game. She gave up one earned run and had one strikeout.

-         Sydney Bonner, Henderson State's starter, received the loss after three innings of work. She gave up four runs and five hits.
