Syrotchen, Ebenja Hired as Harding Track and Field Assistant Coaches

SEARCY – Harding head track and field coach Steve Guymon recently announced the hiring of two assistants for the 2018-19 season. Josh Syrotchen has been hired as the throws coach and will work with multiple-event athletes. Cathy Ebenja has been hired as the sprints and relays coach.

Syrotchen, a native of Spokane, Washington, was a four-time All-American in the discus at Harding, twice placing second at NCAA nationals. He also qualified for the USA Outdoor National Championship twice. Syrotchen, Harding's outdoor record holder in the discus, hammer and weight throws, is currently a professional thrower. Last season, Syrotchen served as a volunteer throws coach and helped Harding break two outdoor throwing records. He graduated from Harding in 2017 with a bachelor's in business administration.

Ebenja, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, was a four-year letterwinner with the Harding track program, graduating in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in print journalism. Ebenja earned All-America honors in the indoor 60-meter dash as a senior. Following graduation, Ebenja worked as a sprint coach under Mike Morrison at her alma mater, Joe T. Robinson High School, where she helped lead the team to four conference championships.

"I was really honored to have Cathy and Josh as athletes, and I am very excited to have them join our staff as coaches," Guymon said. "They are both very good coaches and will bring a positive energy to our team. They know what it takes to excel in track and field."
