ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Harding softball team defeated William Jewell 11-3 in five innings in the first game on Saturday in the Alvy Early Memorial Softball Classic. The second game against Emporia State has been moved to Monday. The two teams will play a doubleheader in Searcy.
Harding improves to 6-2 on the season.
William Jewell falls to 2-2.
Game One Key Innings (Harding 11, William Jewell 3 (5 Innings)
- After two scoreless innings, William Jewell got on the board first in the third inning scoring two runs on a Harding error.
- Harding answered back in the bottom of the third scoring three runs on two hits. Amanda Fields highlighted the inning with a two-run home run.
- William Jewell added another run in the fourth when Maddie Greenstreet singled in Tori Farr.
- The Lady Bisons blew the game open scoring six runs on five hits in the fourth inning. Kiley Persons drove in two, Peyton Mills drove in one and Amanda Fields hit a three-run home run.
- Harding scored two more in the fifth when Mason McCord scored on a passed ball and Kyndal Pirtle scored on a wild pitch.
Game One Key Statistics
- Harding had a season-high 11 runs and a season-high 12 hits in the game.
- Amanda Fields went 2-for-3 with a career-high five RBI's. It was her first career two home run game. It was the eighth time a Harding player has hit multiple home runs in a game. She is the sixth player to accomplish the feat. Amanda Berdon had two home runs three times.
- Mason McCord also went 2-for-3.
- Kymberlyn Baldwin pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief for Harding to pick up the win. It was her first collegiate win. Baldwin is now 1-0 on the season. She didn't give up an earned run and gave up two hits against nine batters faced.
- Jenna Hipp started the game for Harding. She threw 2 2/3 innings, didn't give up an earned run and struck out five.
- Sarah Lewis received the loss and falls to 0-1 on the season. She pitched 3 2/3 innings, gave up eight earned runs and struck out three.
