Home Runs Not Enough as Softball Splits Doubleheader with Southeastern Oklahoma

SEARCY – The Harding softball team hit three home runs but split a Great American Conference doubleheader with Southeastern Oklahoma Sunday. The Lady Bisons won the first game 6-3 and despite Mason McCord's two home runs, Harding fell 11-8 in game two.

Harding moves to 11-9 overall and 3-7 in the GAC. The win was Harding head coach Phil Berry's 1,000 career win between club and college.

Southeastern Oklahoma moves to 8-12 overall and 6-4 in the GAC.

Game One Key Innings (Harding 6, Southeastern Okla. 3)

-         Southeastern Oklahoma took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Keeshia Thompson doubled in run.

-         Harding took a 4-1 lead in the fourth scoring four runs on three hits. Amanda Fields hit a two-run home run to left and Mason McCord doubled in two runs. It was Fields third home run of the season.

-         Harding made it a 5-1 game in the fifth when Peyton Mills scored on a wild pitch.

-         The Lady Bisons took a 6-1 lead in the sixth when Madison Leggett scored on a wild pitch.

-         Southeastern Oklahoma got two runs in the seventh off of two hits. Keeshia Thompson singled in a run and Katie McCullar hit a sacrifice fly.

Game One Key Statistics

-         Harding had seven hits in the game led by Amanda Fields who went 2-for-2.

-         Southeastern Oklahoma had eight hits led by Keeshia Thompson who went 3-for-4.

-         Jenna Hipp got the win for Harding to improve to 3-3 on the season. She pitched five innings and had three strikeouts.

-         Emma Dwyer pitched two innings of relief and had one strikeout.

-         Destiny Riddle received the loss for Southeastern Oklahoma and falls to 2-6 on the season.

Game Two Key Innings (Southeastern Okla. 11, Harding 8)

-         Southeastern Oklahoma scored two runs on three hits in the first inning.

-         Harding took a 3-2 lead in the second on three hits. Mason McCord highlighted the inning with a two-run home run to left.

-         The Savage Storm took a 4-3 lead in the third off of two hits. Both runs scored on walks with the bases loaded.

-         Briley Feringa tied the game in the third when she singled in a run.

-         Harding took a 5-4 lead in the fourth when Katie Carney had a pitch-hit single that drove in Peyton Mills.

-         The Lady Bisons made it a 6-4 game in the sixth when Mason McCord hit her second home run of the game. It was her third of the season.

-         Southeastern Oklahoma scored seven runs on six hits and two Harding errors in the seventh inning. Elexis Watson highlighted the inning with a three run home run.

-         Harding got two runs back in the seventh off of three hits.

Game Two Key Statistics

-         Southeastern Oklahoma had 14 hits led by Katie McCullar who went 3-for-5.

-         Harding had 11 hits led by Mason McCord and Amanda Fields who each had two.

-         It was the second time this season and in her career Mason McCord has hit two home runs in a game.

-         Peyton Mills had three stolen bases for the second time this season.

-         Destiny Riddle got the win for Southeastern Oklahoma to improve to 3-6. She pitched three innings and had two strikeouts.

-         Emma Dwyer received the loss for Harding and falls to 2-3 on the season.

-         Harding used five pitchers in the game.

Next Up

-          The two teams will wrap up their series with a doubleheader Monday starting at 10 a.m.
