Softball Sweeps UAM Saturday; Earns No. 3 Seed in GAC Tournament

Monticello, Ark.  – The Harding softball team swept Arkansas-Monticello Saturday in a Great American Conference doubleheader. The Lady Bisons won 9-2 and 6-1.

After Saturday's results, the Lady Bisons will be the No. 3 seed in the GAC Tournament held May 1-4 in Bentonville, Arkansas. Harding will face No. 6 seed Southern Nazarene at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 1.

Harding improves to 34-22 overall and 26-18 in the GAC.

Arkansas-Monticello falls to 25-27 overall and 18-26 in the GAC.

After Peyton Mills performance in this weekends series, she became the Great American Conference career all-time leader in hits (282) and doubles (53).

Game One Key Innings (Harding 9, Arkansas-Monticello 2)

-         Harding took a 3-0 lead in the second thanks to Madison Leggett who hit a three-run home run to left field. It was her fifth of the season.

-         Arkansas-Monticello cut the lead to 3-1 in the fifth when Chelsea Anderson hit a double to left center that scored Jordan Herbner from third.

-         The Lady Bisons took an 8-1 lead in the sixth scoring five runs on three hits. Katie carney had a pitch-hit double that scored two runs. Amanda Fields, Mason McCord and Lindsey Duncan all had a RBI in the inning.

-         The Blossoms scored their second run in the sixth when Katelynn Stamper had a RBI ground out.

-         Hanna Jones made it 9-2 for Harding in the seventh when she hit double to down the left field line that scored Peyton Mills.

Game One Key Statistics

-         Each team had seven hits in the game.

-         Hanna Jones led Harding going 2-for-3.

-         Sierra Gasca led Arkansas-Monticello going 2-for-4.

-         Jenna Hipp got the win for Harding to improve to 16-6 on the season. It was her 12th complete game. She gave up one earned run and struck out three.

-         Hayley McGhee received the loss for Arkansas-Monticello.

Game Two Key Innings (Harding 6, Arkansas-Monticello 1)

-         Harding jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Briley Feringa hit a single to right field that scored Lindsey Duncan.

-         Madison Leggett hit a single to left center that scored Hanna Jones in the second inning to give Harding a 2-0 lead.

-         The Lady Bisons took a 4-0 lead in the third scoring two runs on three hits. Peyton Mills doubled in a run and Kiley Person singled in a run.

-         Arkansas-Monticello got on the board in the third when Haley Cornell reached on an error that scored Mahayla Mitchell.

-         Amanda Fields put Harding up 5-1 in the fifth when she hit a lead-off home run to left field. It was her team-leading 11th of the season.

-         Harding added its final run in the seventh when Madison Leggett hit a single to center field that scored Hanna Jones

Game Two Key Statistics

-         Harding tied a season-high with 14 hits in the game. It was the fourth time this season the Lady Bisons have had 14 hits. Six different Lady Bisons had two hits in the game.

-         Arkansas-Monticello had two hits by two different players.

-         Aidan Nichols got the win for Harding to improve to 2-0. It was her first complete game of the season. She had one earned run and struck out two.

-         Abigail Leonards received the loss for Arkansas-Monticello and falls to 11-12 on the season.
