Harding Volleyball in the Dominican Republic - Day 2

Harding volleyball is on a preseason trip in the Dominican Republic, playing volleyball and interacting with members of the community. Below is a summary of Day 2 (July 31) from Harding junior Annesly Young.
 

Hey HUVB fans and family,

Day Two in the Dominican Republic actually started last night with a beautiful devotional from Coach Fear about what it means to be the strong, beloved women of God that He created us to be. This morning we had the opportunity to take that message to Pasitos de Jesus, a home for girls specifically with histories of abuse or neglect. As we entered the grounds, a sense of overwhelming peace and strength emanated from the manicured gardens and bright blue house. The girls were a blast -- from volleyball games and dance parties to hair braiding and puzzles -- we were overwhelmed by the love shown by these girls who have been through unimaginable pain. Despite their pasts, we were able to see girls who had found abundant joy in Jesus instead of harboring bitterness and anger. The community they shared was truly a blessing to experience.

In the afternoon, we played a club team called Caleros in Santo Domingo. It was an exciting match and we were able to come out on top, but we were very thankful for the level of competition and growth we were able to experience. Afterwards, Katie shared a personal story of how Jesus filled the empty hole in her heart with His love. As we all sat in a circle, Dominicans and Americans alike, I was struck by how the story of Jesus translated across every tongue and nation to speak to the heart of every human being.

We are so blessed and so thankful to be in this place. Please continue to pray for us as we go throughout the week. The Lord is moving here.
