Harding Volleyball in the Dominican Republic - Day 3

Hey HUVB fans and family!

Today we got to experience yet another day of spreading the light of Christ and playing the amazing sport of volleyball. This morning we got to go to the Lily House. Here's a little background on the house -- this house focuses on empowering women based on the word of God. These women and children escaped human trafficking and enrolled in a three-year program to learn new skills to provide for their families. When we walked through the gates of the home, we were greeted by chickens and their little chicks. We were led into the work space on the first floor and greeted all the strong and beautiful women who worked there and some of their children. Coach Fear led the group in a devotional about unity and strength in women and the way God intended women to be viewed. During the devotional, you could feel the women understanding and connecting to the message. After the devotional, our new graduate assistant, Jazmyne, and Annesly Young spoke about how God had been working in their lives. You could really feel the Spirit moving in these women and in this house.

Next we went to the Lily House's salon, gift shop and bakery, run by women from the program. In the salon, almost all of our team got their hair braided. In the gift shop, they sold handmade jewelry and bags. In the bakery, they sold ice cream, coffee, smoothies and cupcakes. It was amazing to see all these women learning skills to support themselves after being in such a horrible situation. The strength and love for Christ these women showed empowered our whole team.

This afternoon we got to play some Dominican volleyball! We played against girls from Santo Domingo, around the ages of 14-17. These girls were so passionate about volleyball, and it was so cool to see the love these girls have for the game. After the match, Kinley shared her story of how she came to Christ by pursuing a relationship with Him when it was difficult. You could tell that some of these girls became curious about Jesus by their facial expressions.

Thank you letting me share our experiences. I cannot wait to see the way God continues to move in this community and in our lives.

Love,
HUVB
