CONROE, Texas – The Harding softball team started February out strong with two wins in the Arkansas Tech Invitational. The Lady Bisons defeated Texas A&M-International 5-0 and No. 15 Cameron 4-3.
Harding improves to 2-2 on the season.
It was the Lady Bisons first win over a ranked team since Harding defeated Saint Leo last season 8-5. The Lady Bisons are 16-23 all-time against ranked opponents.
Game One Key Innings (Harding 5, Texas A&M-International 0)
- Back-to-back doubles by Hannah Garrett and Hanna Jones gave Harding a 2-0 in the third inning.
- Kendall Tramel hit a single to the shortstop that scored Faith Waugh to make it a 3-0 Harding lead in the fourth inning.
- The Lady Bisons made it 5-0 in the fifth inning off RBI singles by Amanda Fields and Aidan Nichols.
Game One Key Statistics
- Harding had 10 hits in the game. Hannah Garrett, Hanna Jones and Aidan Nichols each had two hits.
- Texas A&M-International had four hits led by Kristy Alanis who went 2-for-3.
- It was Harding's first shutout of the season.
- Jenna Hipp got her first win of the season for Harding. She threw five innings, gave up four hits and had five strikeouts. Emma Dwyer pitched two innings and had two strikeouts.
- Denise Longoria received the loss for Texas A&M-International. She went four innings, gave up two earned runs and had one strikeout.
Game Two Key Innings (Harding 4, No. 15 Cameron 3)
- Harding got on the board in the second scoring two runs on a hit. Lindsey Duncan and Hannah Garrett each had a RBI in the inning.
- The Lady Bisons went up 3-0 in the third inning when Aidan Nichols scored on a throwing error.
- Lindsey Duncan crossed the plate on a double-play in the fourth inning to make it a 4-0 game.
- Cameron got on the board in the fifth inning scoring three runs on two hits. Khmari Edwards tripled in a run and Maydson Marvulli doubled in two runs.
Game Two Key Statistics
- Each team had six hits in the game.
- Hannah Garrett led Harding going 3-for-4. Lindsey Duncan also went 2-for-4.
- Khmari Edwards led Cameron with two hits.
- Aidan Nichols got the win for Harding to improve to 1-1 on the season. She went 4 2/3 innings, gave up three earned runs and had seven strikeouts.
- Emma Dwyer got her first save of the season, pitching 2 1/3 innings of relief. She gave up two hits and had four strikeouts. It was her 18th career save.
- Turner Whorton received the loss for Cameron. She went three innings, gave up three earned runs and walked five.
