Harding Women's Tennis Upsets No. 22 Northwest Missouri State, Wins 11th Straight

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Harding women's tennis defeated a nationally ranked team for the first time in nearly six years with a 5-2 victory over 22nd-ranked Northwest Missouri State Wednesday. Harding defeated then 29th-ranked Arkansas Tech on April 19, 2014.

"Today was a special day for Harding tennis," head coach David Redding said. "To beat a nationally ranked team is huge for our program. I am so proud of the way our players came out and fought from the very beginning."

Harding's 11th consecutive victory gave the Lady Bisons a 14-5 overall record and 8-4 mark against regional teams. Harding has four wins over regionally ranked opponents.

Harding won the doubles point with victories at No. 1 by Rylie Cox Evans and Hana Folse and at No. 3 by Rachel McCrae and Ashley Nilsson. Cox Evans and Folse won 6-4 for their school-record tying 22nd doubles victory of the season. They tied the record of Laura Golubic and Piper Huey in 2017.

McCrae and Nilsson remained perfect in dual matches at No. 3 with a 5-0 record.

Harding took a 2-0 lead with Emily Carpenter's 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5, her 10th consecutive singles victory and 18th win of the season. Lindy Carpenter gave the Lady Bisons a 3-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3, her sixth straight victory and ninth in her last 10 singles matches.

Harding clinched the match with Cox Evans's 6-2, 6-1 victory over Tania Teruel, the Central Region's 13th-ranked player. It was her 14th straight win and her fifth in six matches against regionally ranked opponents.

McCrae added Harding's fifth point with a tight 7-6, 7-5 win at No. 6, her ninth straight singles victory.

Harding goes for victory No. 15 Saturday at Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi.
