Harding Men's Tennis Wins Eighth Straight, Defeat Northwest Missouri 4-3

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Harding defeated its second straight MIAA opponent Wednesday with an inspired 4-3 victory over Northwest Missouri State. The teams played at Ward Tennis Center on the campus of Ouachita Baptist due to rain in Searcy.

"I'm so proud of the way our players came out and fought hard," Harding coach David Redding said. "We weathered a very emotionally charged atmosphere."

Harding's eighth straight victory gave the Bisons a 14-1 overall record, a 6-1 record against regional opponents and a 2-0 mark in the MIAA/GAC. Northwest Missouri State, ranked No. 4 in the Central Region, fell to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in conference.

Harding won the doubles point, including a victory at No. 1 where Alvaro de Lorenzo and Morgan Salvan defeated the No. 9-ranked team of Fabien Calloud and Andrea Zamurri 7-6. It was the third win in Harding's NCAA history against a doubles team ranked in the top 10 nationally.

The No. 2 team of Arthur Bellan and Dani Ortiz clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 victory, the duo's 10th straight. It moved the team to 13-3 this season and 12-1 in dual matches.

Ortiz gave Harding a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles, his eighth straight singles win and second against a regionally ranked opponent.

Northwest Missouri evened the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 6, but Harding pulled back ahead with Morgan Salvan's three-set victory over 35th-ranked Franco Oliva. It was his first career victory over a nationally ranked opponent.

A few minutes later, Luis Tirado clinched the match for Harding with a straight-sets victory at No. 4, his eighth straight win as well.

Harding plays again in GAC/MIAA action Friday against Washburn. The match will be played indoors at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas.
