HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Harding softball team got two wins including a shutout Friday in the opening rounds of the Charger Chillout hosted by Alabama-Huntsville. The Lady Bisons defeated Shorter 5-0 and Union 6-3.
It was the fifth time Harding has started its season 2-0.
Shorter falls to 0-1 on the season.
Union falls to 0-1 on the season.
Game One Key Innings (Harding 5, Shorter 0)
- Harding got on the board in the third inning scoring three runs on five hits. Ashlyn Peterson doubled in a run, Chelsea Blankenship tripled in a run and Jordan Cabana singled in a run.
- The Lady Bisons added another run in the fifth inning when Mackenzie Law singled in Allison Hyatt.
- Harding scored its fifth run in the sixth when Peterson drove in Nicole Shano.
Game One Key Statistics
- Harding had 12 hits in the game with four players having two.
- Madison Fraley went 2-for-2 with a walk. Makenzie Chappell, Ashlyn Peterson and Chelsea Blankenship also had two hits.
- Harding held Shorter to no runs and only four hits.
- Lily Tanski picked up the win for Harding in the complete game shutout. She had a career-high 10 strikeouts against 25 batters.
- Julie Sanderlin received the loss for Shorter. She went 2 2/3 innings, gave up six hits and three earned runs.
Game Two Key Innings (Harding 6, Union 3)
- Harding got on the board in the second inning when Jordan Cabana singled in Chelsea Blankenship from third.
- The Lady Bisons added two more runs on two hits and two errors in the third inning. Ashlyn Peterson hit a three-run home run in the inning. It was her first career home run.
- Harding added to its run total in the fourth went Nicole Shano singled in Madison Fraley from third.
- The Lady Bisons made it 6-0 in the fifth when Cabana scored on a defensive interference.
- Union got two runs back in the sixth on three hits and a Harding error.
- Union had the bases loaded in the seventh but only managed one run across on a sacrifice fly.
Game Two Key Statistics
- Harding had nine hits with Ashton Bryce and Jordan Cabana each going 2-for-3.
- Union had eight hits by seven different players.
- Jenna Hipp got the win for Harding after pitching four innings. She had three strikeouts and no earned runs. Emma Dwyer got the save for Harding in 2/3 innings of work. She had one strikeout.
