SEARCY, Ark. – The 9th-ranked Harding women's volleyball team faced its toughest test of the season Tuesday against Henderson State at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House but emerged victorious 3-2 after trailing two-sets-to-one. Set scores were 24-26, 25-23, 19-25, 25-16, 15-11.
Harding remained undefeated at 7-0 with the victory. Henderson State fell to 3-4.
Sophomore Logan Smith led Harding with 17 kills and 16 digs. Sophomore Ally Stoner had 14 kills, and sophomore setter Sarah Morehead had 44 assists and 18 digs. Emily Smith had 12 kills and Libby Hinton added 11.
Harding had 109 digs in the match, led by senior Katherine Cowart with 34, tied for sixth in a five-set match and the most by a Harding player since Taylor Lake had 34 against Henderson State in 2018.
After losing the third set, Harding responded with 15 kills in the fourth set and limited Henderson State to only eight. In the deciding fifth set, Harding had 11 kills to Henderson State's five.
Harding never trailed in the fifth set, winning the first three points. The Lady Bisons led 7-3 on a kill by Stoner, but Henderson State won five of the next seven points and cut the Harding lead to 9-8. The Lady Bisons reeled off the next three points, two coming on Reddie errors. Harding won on its third match point, a service error by Henderson State.
Violeta Mendoza Quintana led Henderson State with 17 kills and 20 digs.
Harding plays the eighth of its 10 spring matches Tuesday, March 16 against Southern Arkansas in Magnolia.
