Makenzie Chappell Walks It Off to Give Softball Series Sweep

SEARCY – Harding head coach Phil Berry coached his final home games Friday. Coach Berry is retiring at the end of the season. The Lady Bisons sent him out in style with a doubleheader sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma in Great American Conference action. Harding won both games 1-0 and had a walk-off hit by Makenzie Chappell in the eighth inning of game two. Along with Thursday's win, Harding swept of the series against the Savage Storm.

Harding will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming GAC Tournament May 14-15 in Bentonville, Arkansas. The Lady Bisons tied for second with Southeastern Oklahoma in the GAC standings. The wins today gave Harding the tie breaker between the two teams. The Lady Bisons will face No. 7 seed Oklahoma Baptist at 4 p.m., in the first round of the GAC Tournament.

Harding improves to 33-11 overall and 24-9 in the GAC. The Lady Bisons moved their winning streak to 14 games after Friday.

The series against Southeastern Oklahoma was scheduled to be played Feb. 26-27 but was postponed due to COVID.

Southeastern Oklahoma falls to 34-10 overall and 24-9 in the GAC.

 
Game One Key Innings (Harding 1, Southeastern Okla. 0)

-         B2 – A stolen base put Makenzie Chappell at second. On the next pitch, the catcher over-threw second on a failed pickoff. The ball goes through the centerfielders legs and goes all the way to the wall to allow Chappell to score. (Harding 1, Southeastern 0)

 
Game One Key Statistics

-         Each team had two hits by four different players.

-         Jessica Bridges got the win for Harding to improve to 11-4 on the season. She threw her ninth complete game and struck out three.

-         Amberlyn Walsworth received the loss and falls to 16-4.
 

Game Two Key Innings (Harding 1, Southeastern Okla. 0 (8 Innings))

-         B8 – With runners at second and third and two outs, Makenzie Chappell hit a single down the left field line to walk it off for Harding (Harding 1, Southeastern 0)

 
Game Two Key Statistics

-         Harding had seven hits with Amanda Fields leading the way with two.

-         Southeastern Oklahoma had four hits led by Kady Fryrear who had two.

-         Lily Tanski got the win for Harding to improve to 21-6 on the season. She threw her 18th complete game. She also had eight strikeouts.

-         Amberlyn Walsworth received the loss and falls to 16-5. She pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief.
