Volleyball Gets Two Wins Saturday

TOPEKA, Kan. – The 19th-ranked Harding volleyball team got two wins to close out the Washburn Tournament Saturday. The Lady Bisons defeated 15th-ranked Northern State 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 25-15) and Cameron 3-1 (25-12, 25-16, 22-25, 25-12).

Harding's win over Northern State was just the seventh win over a ranked opponent. The Lady Bisons last win over a ranked opponent came last spring against then ranked 15th Arkansas Tech. Harding won 3-1.

Ally Stoner and Libby Hinton were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Harding improves to 2-2 on the season.

Northern State falls to 2-1 and Cameron falls to 1-4.

NORTHERN STATE MATCH

FIRST SET

Harding took a 5-3 lead in the first set on four kills. Trailing 18-17, Harding put the set away going on an 8-2 run on three kills to win 25-20. Harding had 17 kills in the set and hit .500 with only two attack errors.

SECOND SET

Leading 17-16 in the second set, Northern State went on a 3-0 run to lead 20-16. Harding couldn't recover as Northern State won 25-20. Harding had seven attack errors in the set.

THIRD SET

Harding jumped out a 9-4 lead in the third set on seven kills. Northern State pulled within two twice but the Lady Bisons hung on to win the set 25-21. Harding had 16 kills in the set.

FOURTH SET

Trailing 3-1 in the fourth set, Harding went on a 14-2 run on five kills and four aces to lead 15-2. The Lady Bisons won the set 25-15. Harding had 12 kills in the set and held Northern State to hitting .107.

STATS

Harding

-          Ally Stoner led Harding with 12 kills. Chloe Ingersoll added 10 kills.

-          Harding had 55 kills and hit .257.

-          Sarah Morehead had 40 assists and nine digs.

-          Emma Winiger led the defense with 20 digs.

-          Amber Robin had a career-high six service aces which tied for fourth most in a match.

Northern State

-          Northern State had three players in double-figure kills. Natalia Szybinska and Sally Gaul each had 13 kills. Taylor Buckley had 10 digs.

-          Northern State had 51 kills, hit .234 and had 19 attack errors.

-          Keri Walker captured a double-double with 43 assists and 10 digs.

-          Havyn Heinz led the defense with 17 digs.

CAMERON MATCH

FIRST SET

Harding jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first set and won the set 25-12. Harding had 10 kills and held Cameron to hitting -.037 in the set.

SECOND SET

Harding continued its dominance in the second set with a 9-0 lead. Cameron pulled within three 15-12 until the Lady Bisons went on a 10-4 run on eight kills to win set 25-16. Harding had 16 kills in the set.

THIRD SET

Harding took a 12-8 lead in the third set until Cameron tied the set a 16. Harding took the next two points but then gave up a 5-0 run to trail 21-18. The Lady Bisons battled back to cut the lead to two but a kill by Cameron gave them the set 25-22.

FOURTH SET

Tied at seven in the fourth set, Harding went on an 8-0 run on seven kills to lead 15-7. The Lady Bisons only allowed Cameron to score five more points as Harding won the set 25-12. The Lady Bisons had 16 kills and hit .727 in the set with no attack errors.

STATS

Harding

-          Harding had four players in double-figure kills. Ally Stoner and Chloe Ingersoll each had 14 kills and Libby Hinton and Skyler McKinnon each had 13 kills.

-          Harding had 64 kills and hit. 310 in the match.

-          Sarah Morehead captured a double-double with 44 assists and 10 digs.

-          Emma Winiger had 11 digs to lead the defense.

Cameron

-          Alanni Carter led Cameron with 11 kills.

-          Cameron had 28 kills and hit .100 in the match.

-          Presley Shearin led the defense with 10 digs.

UP NEXT

Harding will be back in action next weekend when it travels to Tyler, Texas for a four-match tournament hosted by Texas-Tyler. The Lady Bisons open the tournament Friday Sept. 10 at 10 a.m., against Mississippi College.
