Harding Dominates Pole Vault, Places Third in Jungle

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Competing in its second indoor meet of the season Friday, the Harding men's track and field team placed third of 13 NCAA Division II teams at the Rumble in the Jungle, hosted by Pittsburg State University.

Harding scored 68.5 points, finishing behind host Pittsburg State (172) and Texas A&M-Commerce (117). Great American Conference team Oklahoma Baptist placed seventh.

The Lady Bisons scored 37.50 points in the jumps, 10 points in both the sprints and the distance events, six in the hurdles and five in the relays.

The highlights of the meet for the Bisons came in the pole vault where five different Harding athletes scored a total of 26 points in the event, and senior Thibault Waeles's school record of 1:52.39 in the 800 meters.

Waeles and pole vaulters Austin Parrish and Jonathan Wall all recorded NCAA provisional qualifying marks.

Jumps
Parrish won the pole vault with a provisional height of 5.01 meters (16-5.25). It was his first career indoor event victory. Wall placed third with a provisional height of 4.81 meters (15-9.25), adding six points. Freshman Kylor Aguilar scored five points with a clearance of 4.71 meters (15-5.5), senior Alex Hindman was sixth, scoring three points with a clearance of 4.61 meters (15-1.5) and senior Matt Hipshire scored two points by placing seventh and clearing 4.46 meters (14-7.5).

Harding had three athletes score in the high jump. Freshman Antiwain Jones placed second and scored eight points, jumping 1.93 meters (6-4). Freshman Jacob Cantrell was sixth, scoring 2.5 points by jumping 1.85 meters (6-0.75), and sophomore Bennett Holloway was eighth at 1.85 meters (6-0.75), scoring one point.

Sprints
Sophomore Nikolasz Csokas placed third in the 600-yard dash in 1:13.24, scoring six points.

Sophomore Dakarai Bush was fifth in the 200 meters in 22.32, adding four points.

Distance
Waeles placed second in the 800 meters in 1:52.39, breaking the previous school record of 1:53.04, set by Frank Bolling in 2010. He scored eight points.

Freshman Luke Walling added two points with a seventh-place finish in the 3,000 meters. His time was 8:51.58.

Hurdles
Sophomore Dakarai Bush placed third in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.31 seconds, scoring six points.

Relays
Harding's quartet of Tad Kirby, Bush, Csokas and Waeles placed fourth in the 4x400 relay in 3:17.86, adding an additional five points.
