SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Harding volleyball team stayed perfect in Great American Conference action Thursday after defeating Oklahoma Baptist 3-1 (25-23, 10-25, 25-18, 25-19). Oklahoma Baptist was in second place in the GAC standings coming into Thursday's contest.
Thursday's win also marked Harding's 19th straight win dating back to August 27th. Harding broke the previous record of 17 that was accomplished twice with the first being in 2002 and the second in 2005 last Friday after defeating Southwestern Oklahoma 3-1.
Harding stays in first place in the GAC standings and improves to 21-1 overall and 10-0 in the GAC.
Oklahoma Baptist falls to 14-9 overall and 8-2 in the GAC.
FIRST SET
Leading 8-7 in the first set, Oklahoma Baptist went on a 5-0 run to take a 13-7 lead. Harding battled back and tied the set at 23. A service error and a Harding block gave the Lady Bisons the set 25-23. The two teams combined for 17 attack errors in the set. Harding had 12 kills and Oklahoma Baptist had 13.
SECOND SET
Oklahoma Baptist jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the second set and didn't look back as it won the set 25-10. Oklahoma Baptist had 12 kills and hit .333 in the set.
THIRD SET
Trailing 6-5 in the third set, Harding went on a 7-1 run on five kills to lead 12-7. Harding had set point four times before a kill by Skyler McKinnon gave Harding the set 25-18. Harding had 18 kills in the set and hit .341.
FOURTH SET
Harding jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the fourth set before Oklahoma Baptist tied the set at six. Harding then went on a 9-3 run on five kills to lead 15-9. Leading 23-19, Harding had back-to-back kills to win the set 25-19. Harding had 15 kills and hit .268 in the set.
