The No. 43-ranked Harding men's tennis team snapped a three-match skid with a 4-3 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith on Wednesday in Searcy. The Bisons improve to 8-4 on the season while the Lions fall to 3-5.
The Bisons started the match by winning the doubles point for the fifth straight match.
Dani Ortiz and
Cas de Ruiter teamed up for the first time this season and won at No. 2, 6-2. The No. 28-ranked doubles team of Alvaro de Lorenzo and
Morgan Salvan also won 6-2 at No. 1.
Milosh Petrovic and
Diego Pierola finished the sweep for the Bisons in doubles action, winning their third straight match at No. 3, 6-2.
Petrovic put the Bisons up 2-0 after grabbing the first singles victory of the day, winning 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5. After the Lions scored their first point of the match with a victory at No. 2, de Lorenzo won his fourth straight match 6-1, 7-6 at No. 3.
The Lions cut the lead to 3-2 with two matches remaining but
Bryce Walker clinched the match for the Bisons with his third win at No. 4 this season, winning 6-2, 6-3. Ortiz was leading at No. 1 but was forced to retire from the match with an injury.
The Bisons will conclude their six-match homestand on Sunday (March 27) when they host McKendree at 1 p.m.
