Hipshire Wins Decathlon at Harding Spring Break Multi

SEARCY – Harding senior Matt Hipshire won the decathlon at the 2022 Harding Spring Break Multi, contested Monday and Tuesday, two cold and windy days, at Ted Lloyd Track.

Hipshire, a native of Ferris, Texas, defeated six other athletes in the 10-event competition with 6,115 points. Harding freshman Jacob Cantrell placed fourth with 4,874 points.

It was the sixth decathlon of Hipshire's collegiate career, his fourth event victory and his fourth-highest score.

During the competition, Hipshire set a personal record (PR) in the long jump, sailing 6.73 meters (22 feet, 1 inch). His javelin throw of 45.54 meters (149 feet, 5 inches) was just one centimeter short of his PR.

Hipshire's highest point total came in the long jump, where he earned 750 points.

Cantrell, a native of Heber Springs, Arkansas, competed in his first collegiate decathlon. He earned 694 points in the 110-meter hurdles, his best event, with a time of 16.35 seconds.
