SEARCY – The Harding softball team split a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday against Delta State at the HU Softball Field. The Lady Bisons won the first game 2-0 but dropped the second game 7-5.
Harding moves to 29-14 overall and Delta State moves to 19-19.
GAME 1
Junior Lily Tanski was dealing on Tuesday, tossing a four-hit shutout to win the first game. It was her second straight shutout as she threw a shutout against Southern Arkansas last Friday.
Tanski (10-6) didn't walk a batter and struck out five.
Freshman Leigha Harris led the way offensively for the Lady Bisons, going 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Harris put Harding on the board in the first inning when she hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Hanna Jones from third.
Harris knocked in another run in the third when she hit a double to left field that scored Ashton Bryce from third.
GAME NOTES
» It was Tanski's eighth complete game of the season as she faced 25 Delta State hitters in the game, allowing three ground balls and 12 fly balls while striking out five.
» Delta State out hit Harding 4-2.
» Delta State was led offensively by senior Chrissy Tubbs, who went 2-for-3.
GAME 2
Delta State scored four runs in the sixth inning to go on to a 7-5 win in game two.
Harding starter Maegan Pistokache received the loss and falls to 10-6 on the season. She went 4.1 innings and struck out two.
Hanna Jones led the way for Harding going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Leigha Harris and Ashton Bryce also had two hits in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Each team scored a run in the first inning.
Delta State broke the tie and took a 3-1 lead in the fifth scoring two runs on four hits.
Harding got a run back in the bottom of the fifth when Hanna Jones hit a single to center field that scored Ashton Bryce from third.
The Lady Statesmen took a 7-2 lead in the sixth scoring four runs on five hits.
Harding tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh scoring three runs on four hits but Delta State got out of the inning.
GAME NOTES
» Delta State had 13 hits with three players having three.
» Harding had nine hits with Jones, Harris and Bryce each having two.
Harding will be back in action this weekend when it travels to Alva, Oklahoma to take on Northwestern Oklahoma in a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m.
