The Harding men's tennis team played tough, but ultimately fell to No. 13 Washburn 4-2, in a neutral site match at Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Missouri on Sunday (April 3) afternoon. Harding fell to 8-6 on the season and Washburn improved to 14-3.
The Bisons dropped the doubles point for only the second time this season, falling at No. 2 and No. 3. After the Ichabods took the first match at No. 3,
Arthur Bellan and
Dani Ortiz defeated the No.18-ranked doubles team in Division II at No. 1, 6-4 to level the match before Washburn eventually took the point and early 1-0 lead with their second doubles victory.
The Ichabods took a 3-0 lead before the Bisons got on the board. The Bisons dropped singles matches at No. 2 and No. 4 before
Dani Ortiz picked up his first win over a ranked opponent of the season. Ortiz defeated the No. 55-ranked player in Division II at No. 1 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Morgan Salvan also defeated a nationally ranked player, taking down the No. 35 singles player at No. 3, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 to push the match to 3-2. Washburn closed it out at No. 6 singles with a three-set win to take the match 4-2.
The Bisons will return to action of Monday, April 11 when they open conference play on the road at No. 15-ranked Southern Arkansas, beginning at 2 p.m.
