The No. 42-ranked Harding men's tennis team dropped a tight match against No. 13 McKendree 4-3 on Wednesday at the Elliott Tennis Complex. Harding falls to 8-5 with three additional wins against junior colleges while McKendree improves to 9-1.
The Bisons won the doubles match for the sixth straight match. The Bearcats picked up the first victory of the match with a 6-4 win at No. 3. Teodor Zlatar and Dani Ortiz picked up their fourth straight win, 6-4, at No. 2. Cas de Ruiter and Cian Mikkelsen clinched the point for the Bisons with a 6-4 win at No. 1.
De Ruiter, the No. 35-ranked singles player in the nation, pushed the Bisons lead to 2-0 with a 7-5, 6-0, good for his fourth consecutive win. The Bearcats responded with three wins at No. 4, No. 6, and No. 1 to push the match score to 3-2.
Luis Agullo won for the fifth consecutive match, winning 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3. With the match coming down to the final match, the Bearcats grabbed a three-set victory at No. 2 in a third set tiebreaker.
The Bisons will return to action next Friday, March 22 when they take on Washburn at 11 a.m. at the Elliott Tennis Complex.
