ENID, Okla. – The Harding softball team won its 15th straight game Saturday as it swept Northwestern Oklahoma in a Great American Conference doubleheader. The Lady Bisons won 8-0 in five innings in game one and won game two 6-2.
The series was played in Enid, Oklahoma due to facility improvement delays in Alva, Oklahoma.
Harding only allowed Northwestern Oklahoma to score four runs in three games. The Lady Bisons won Friday's game 4-2.
The Lady Bisons winning streak dates back to March 2.
Harding improves to 23-9 overall and 13-4 in the GAC.
Northwestern Oklahoma falls to 12-17 overall and 4-13 in the GAC.
GAME ONE (Harding 8, Northwestern Oklahoma 0 – 5 Innings)
Abby Burch only allowed two hits as she threw a complete game shutout. It was her second complete game of the season and her second shutout. Burch only allowed two hits and had three strikeouts in five innings of work.
Jordan Cabana led Harding at the plate going 2-for-2 with three RBI's. Emma Curry also had three RBI's in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Harding jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Mariana Caro and Jordan Cabana each had an RBI in the inning.
The Lady Bisons made it 4-0 in the second on a two RBI double by Jordan Cabana.
Tedi Nunn gave Harding a 5-0 lead in the third on an RBI single.
The Lady Bisons took an 8-0 lead in the fourth when Emma Curry hit a three-run home run to right center. It was her sixth home run of the season.
GAME NOTES
- Eight different players had a hit in the game as Harding outhit Northwestern Oklahoma 11-2.
- Jordan Cabana, Chelsea Blankenship and Madison Fraley all had two hits in the game.
- Harding had three stolen bases in the game.
- Ireland Caro started for Northwestern Oklahoma and took the loss. She gave up six hits and four earned runs in two innings.
GAME TWO (Harding 6, Northwestern Okla. 2)
Riley Price started and got the win. She improves to 14-6 on the season. Price went four innings, gave up one earned run and had a strikeout. Sarah Philips pitched 2 1/3 innings of middle relief and Abby Burch closed out the game in the circle.
Madison Fraley led Harding at the plate going 3-for-4 with a run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first inning, Harding plated five runs on three hits and two errors in the top of the second inning. Mariana Caro highlighted the inning with a three-run homer to left center. It was her first career home run.
Northwestern Oklahoma answered back in the bottom of the inning scoring two runs on three hits.
The Lady Bisons made it 6-2 in the third on a sacrifice fly by Tedi Nunn.
GAME NOTES
- Harding outhit Northwestern Oklahoma 9-5.
- The Lady Bisons left nine runners on base. The Rangers left eight runners on base.
- Hannah Howell received the loss for the Northwestern Oklahoma. She threw seven innings, gave up two earned runs and struck out two.
NEXT UP
Harding will be back in action next weekend as it hosts Henderson State in a three-game series Friday and Saturday. The two teams will play the doubleheader Friday starting at a 4 p.m., and the single game Saturday at noon.
