CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Harding softball team split its final non-conference doubleheader of the season Tuesday against Delta State. The Lady Statesmen won the first game 14-3 in six innings but the Lady Bisons rebounded and won the second game 10-1 in five innings.
Harding moves to 32-15 overall and Delta State moves to 12-38.
GAME ONE (Delta State 14, Harding 3)
Cameron Timmons started for Harding and took the loss. She falls to 0-1 on the season.
Macy Ham went 2-for-2 at the plate to led the Lady Bisons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Harding got the scoring started in the top of the first scoring two runs on one Delta State error.
Delta State answered back with three runs in the bottom of the first on three hits and a Harding error.
The Lady Statemen added two more in the second on a two-run homer by MyCala Helms.
Delta State plated four more in the third, highlighted by Helms who hit a three-run homer to right field.
Harding got its final run in the fifth on an RBI single by Macy Ham.
Delta State got the run back in the bottom of the fifth on a hit and Harding error.
The Lady Statemen ended the game in the bottom of the sixth on a grand slam by Abbi Cataldo to make it 14-3.
GAME NOTES
- Delta State outhit Harding 11-6.
- Harding had three errors in the game while Delta State had two errors.
- The Lady Bisons had five stolen bases in the game led by Macy Ham who had two.
- Emma Enderud got the win for Delta State and improves to 7-11 on the season.
GAME TWO (Harding 10, Delta State 1)
Riley Price got the win for Harding and improves to 18-9 overall. Price has only allowed one run in her last three starts. It was her sixth complete game. Price struck out two in the game and didn't allow an earned run.
Chelsea Blankenship and Jordan Cabana each went 2-for-4 at the plate. Blankenship drove in three and Cabana drove in two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Harding jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning scoring all of its runs with two outs. Chelsea Blankenship drove in the first run, Kate Pierce walked with the bases loaded and Tedi Nunn highlighted the inning with a two RBI double to center.
The Lady Bisons added another run in the second on an RBI ground out by Chelsea Blankenship.
Harding made it 9-0 in the third scoring four runs on four hits. Mariana Caro had an RBI ground out for the first run setting up a Jordan Cabana triple that scored Macy Ham. Chelsea Blankenship then hit a double that scored Cabana.
The Lady Bisons made it 10-0 in the fourth when Mariana Caro was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Delta State scored its only run in the fourth on one hit and two Harding errors.
GAME NOTES
- Harding outhit Delta State 9-2.
- Seven different players had a hit in the game.
- Yazman Jackson started and received the loss for Delta State. She falls to 2-8 on the season.
NEXT UP
Harding will be back in action this weekend when it hosts Southern Nazarene in its final regular season Great American Conference series. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m.
