ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Trailing 5-1, Jordan Cabana hit a grand slam to tie the game and lift the Harding softball team over Ouachita Baptist 8-6 Friday in Great American Conference action.
Harding improves to 25-11 overall and 15-6 in the GAC.
Ouachita Baptist falls to 9-25 overall and 4-17 in the GAC.
Abby Burch pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief and got the win for Harding to improve to 11-5 on the season. She gave up two earned runs and struck out three. Sarah Philips came on in the seventh to close things out for Harding and earned her second save of the season. She didn't allow a hit in 2/3 of an inning.
Harding had eight hits in the contest by seven different players. Chelsea Blankenship had her seventh multiple hit game of the season going 2-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Harding got the scoring started in the top of the first when Mariana Caro scored on the throw trying to get the runner stealing second.
Ouachita Baptist took a 3-1 lead in the second on three hits.
The Tigers made it 4-1 in the third on a solo home run by Remington Adams.
Ouachita Baptist got another run in the fourth on a solo home run by Maggie Huddleston.
Trailing 5-1 in the fifth inning, Jordan Cabana hit her first career grand slam to tie the game. It was her sixth home run of the season.
The Lady Bisons took the lead in the sixth scoring two runs on three hits. Kaya Lee and Macy Ham each had an RBI in the inning.
Ouachita Baptist got a run back in the sixth scoring a run on three hits.
Harding made it 8-6 in the seventh when Chelsea Blankenship scored on a wild pitch.
Ouachita Baptist had runners at second and third with one out in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't produce a run. Sarah Philips came in and got a pop up and a ground out to earn the save for Harding.
GAME NOTES
- Cabana's grand slam was the 18th in program history.
- Ouachita Baptist outhit Harding 12-8.
- Harding tied a season-high with six stolen bases in the game. Kaya Lee led the Lady Bisons with two. It was the fourth time this season she had two stolen bases in a game.
- Hannah Hunter started and received the loss for Ouachita Baptist. She falls to 5-12 on the season. She went five innings and gave up six earned runs.
- Remington Adams led Ouachita Baptist at the plate going 3-for-3.
