Bulldogs Hand Harding Volleyball Second GAC Loss

WEATHERFORD, Okla. (AP) — The Harding volleyball team struggled to find an answer for Southwestern Oklahoma attack, falling 3-0 (10-25, 21-25, 24-26) on Friday in a Great American Conference action.

The loss snapped a six-match win streak by Harding (16-4 overall and 7-2 in the GAC).

Southwestern Oklahoma improves to 8-13 overall and 6-3 in the GAC.

The Lady Bisons were never able to establish their offense, finishing the night with a season-low .014 hitting percentage and only 34 total kills. Southwestern Oklahoma, conversely, hit .176 for the match, including a scorching .400 in the first set.

Outside hitter Jacey Lambert led Harding's offense with 10 kills. Setter Olivia Wiedower piloted the offense with 19 assists and led the defense with 13 digs. Josie Bishop also had eight kills and 11 digs.

The Bulldogs' attack was led by Hailey Smith and Paris Patterson who each had 11 kills and hit over .300.

SET HIGHLIGHTS

Set 1 (Southwestern Okla. 25, Harding 10): The Lady Bisons struggled out of the gate, as Southwestern Oklahoma quickly put the set out of reach. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-0 lead on three kills and then went on to lead 8-1. Bulldogs kept rolling, using a five-point run on the Smith serve to extend the lead to 17-5. Harding committed 11 attack errors in the set and hit -.050.

Set 2 (Southwestern Okla. 25, Harding 21): Harding showed more life, but early errors allowed the Bulldogs to maintain the upper hand. The Lady Bisons battled back late. Trailing 22-15, Harding went on a 6-2 run to pull within three 24-21 but a kill by Hailey Smith gave the Bulldogs the set win. The Lady Bisons had 11 attack errors in the set.

Set 3 (Southwestern Okla. 26, Harding 24): The final frame was a battle. Harding found its rhythm, taking a 14-5 lead. Southwestern Oklahoma methodically chipped away, trailing 17-8, the Bulldogs went on a 9-1 run to cut the deficit to one, 18-17. After trading points, a block by Lambert and Klotz gave Harding a 23-20 advantage. The Bulldogs rallied, winning six of the next seven points, closing out the set to win 26-24.

Philomina Klotz led the net defense with four of Harding's six blocks.

Southwestern Oklahoma was led defensively by Paris Patterson's 18 digs and Jada Permenter's 17 digs.

Harding will be back in action Thursday when it hosts East Central at 6 p.m., at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
