MONTICELLO, Ark. – The 13th-ranked Harding softball team won its fourth straight game Thursday as it swept the Great American Conference doubleheader at Arkansas-Monticello. Harding won 9-6 and 7-0.
Harding improves to 33-4 overall and 17-2 in the GAC.
Arkansas-Monticello falls to 13-20 overall and 7-12 in the GAC.
GAME ONE – Harding 9, Ark.-Monticello 6
Macy Ham had four hits, including a triple, and Emma Curry homered as Harding defeated Arkansas-Monticello 9-6 in Great American Conference softball action.
Ham, who also had two stolen bases, was one of four Harding players with multiple hits. Emma Curry had three hits and Zoey Neal and Kaya Lee each had two.
Harding took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on Neal's two-run single. After Arkansas-Monticello scored six runs in the second inning, Harding responded with three runs in the third, highlighted by Curry's two-run homer.
The Lady Bisons added four more runs in the fifth inning, capped by Emaline Pearson's pinch hit two-run single. Riley Price (10-3) pitched 5.1 innings of relief to earn the win, allowing four hits and striking out three.
Jadyn Hart had a double and two RBIs for Arkansas-Monticello, while Lainey Tippen had three hits and an RBI. Makenzie Martin (2-8) took the loss for the Cotton Blossoms.
GAME TWO – Harding 7, Ark.-Monticello 0
Brooklyn Gobble tossed a three-hit shutout to lead Harding to a 7-0 victory over Arkansas-Monticello.
Gobble (14-1) struck out nine and walked four in her complete-game effort. It was her sixth complete game and fourth shutout this season.
The Lady Bisons broke through in the third inning, scoring four runs. Bailey Willis scored on a wild pitch, and Zoey Neal followed with a three-run homer to left field, scoring Kaya Lee and Jadyn Booth. It was Neal's seventh home run of the season.
Harding added three more runs in the sixth inning. Emma Curry scored on an RBI single by Alexis Boswell, and Emaline Pearson followed with a two-run pinch hit homer to right field, scoring Boswell. It was Pearson's fourth homer of the season.
Ronnie Johnson (3-3) took the loss for the Cotton Blossoms, allowing four runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings.
The two teams will wrap up their three-game series Friday with a single game starting at noon.
