BETHANY, Okla. (AP) — Bailey Willis slugged a two-run homer in the second inning, and Emma Curry added a two-run shot in the fourth, propelling 19th-ranked Harding to a 7-2 victory over Southern Nazarene in a Great American Conference matchup Thursday.
Willis's blast followed Jadyn Booth being hit by a pitch, giving the Lady Bisons (36-12, 19-9 GAC) an early 2-0 lead. Curry's long ball in the fourth extended the advantage to 4-0, scoring Emaline Pearson who had singled.
Southern Nazarene (26-20, 15-12 GAC) responded in the bottom of the fifth when Hailey Evans launched a two-run homer after Graysen Stanley drew a walk, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
Harding added three runs in the seventh to secure the win. Brooklyn Gobble singled to start the rally, Pierce pinch-ran, and Willis singled her to third. Johnson's RBI single followed, and an SNU error and Zoey Neal's RBI single padded the lead.
Gobble (16-4) was solid in the circle for Harding, pitching a complete game and allowing two runs on six hits while striking out seven. It was her 11th complete game of the season.
Olivia Hernandez (3-6) took the loss for the Crimson Storm. Ashley Larson pitched four innings in relief, surrendering three runs, one earned, on four hits.
The two teams will be back in action Friday when they play a doubleheader starting at noon.
