Softball Wins Regular Season Finale, Awaits GAC Tournament Seeding

SEARCY, Ark. (AP) — The 23rd-ranked Harding softball team took advantage of multiple Northwestern Oklahoma miscues to secure a 7-3 Great American Conference victory Saturday at the HU Softball Field. With Friday's results, the Lady Bisons won the series 2-1.

Harding will have to wait and see what seed they will be in the upcoming GAC Tournament in Bentonville, Arkansas May 1-3. Several GAC teams will finish their regular season games on Sunday.

Before the game, Harding recognized seniors Riley Price, Emma Curry, Brooke Johnson, Macy Ham and Kaya Lee for their contribution to the Harding softball program.

The Lady Bisons (38-15, 21-12 GAC) jumped ahead in the second inning after Brooklyn Gobble led off with a single and advanced on a wild pitch. Riley Price followed with a single, and Gobble scored on a on an RBI ground out by Bailey Willis. Brooke Johnson then singled home another run. Later in the inning, with runners at first and second and two outs, a throwing error by the Northwestern Oklahoma allowed both runners to score, giving Harding a 4-0 lead.

Northwestern Oklahoma (14-36, 8-25 GAC) got on the board in the third when Macy Spearman doubled and later scored on a single by Kaitlyn Corn. The Rangers added two unearned runs in the fourth, capitalizing on a Harding error after three consecutive singles loaded the bases.

Harding added three more unearned runs in the sixth inning, again aided by Northwestern Oklahoma errors. Emma Zaboronek reached on a throwing error, and later scored along with Macy Ham on a fielding error. Kaya Lee also scored on the same play.

Riley Price (13-7) earned the win in relief for Harding, allowing two unearned runs on six hits in 2 1/3 innings. Avery Booker pitched two scoreless innings for her third save. Kathryn Jones (5-13) took the loss for Northwestern Oklahoma.

Lee led Harding with three hits, while Ham had two hits and scored twice. Emaline Pearson also had two hits for the Lady Bisons.
