Harding Men's Tennis Falls Short in NCAA Regional Match

ARKADELPHA, Ark. — In a tightly contested NCAA Central Regional match, No. 21 Harding men's tennis fell short to No. 36 Ouachita Baptist 4-3 at the Ward Tennis Center.

The Bisons' Cas de Ruiter made history at No. 1 singles, defeating nationally No. 1-ranked Phil Exner 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. This marks the first time a Harding player has beaten the top-ranked singles player in Division II since the university joined the NCAA in 1997.

De Ruiter's win was one of three singles victories for Harding, along with Caleb Folse at No. 4 singles and Edoardo D'Arrigo at No. 6 singles. Folse defeated Moritz Buss 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, while D'Arrigo beat Aaron Osmond 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles, the top-ranked Harding tandem of de Ruiter and Adrian Solorzano won at No. 1 doubles, defeating Exner and Ramon Strassmann 6-3. However, Ouachita Baptist took the other two doubles matches and the doubles point.

The Bisons finish the season 15-7.
