SEARCY, Ark. — The Harding University volleyball team extended their winning streak to four matches Thursday, sweeping the Southwest Baptist Bearcats 3-0 in the first match of the Harding Invitational. The Lady Bisons, now 7-2 on the season, secured the victory with set scores of 25-10, 25-17, and 25-16.
Southwest Baptist falls to 3-6 on the season.
Set Recaps:
· First Set (Harding 25, Southwest Baptist 10): The Lady Bisons established dominance early, fueled by six kills by Jacey Lambert. Leading 5-4, Harding went on a 7-0 run to lead 12-4 on five kills. Leading 23-10, the Lady Bisons had a service ace and a kill to get the set victory.
· Second Set (Harding 25, Southwest Baptist 17): Harding continued its attack in the second set, starting with an 11-0 run behind the serving of Olivia Wiedower. Wiedower's three aces and Harding's four kills gave Harding the earlier lead. Leading 24-17, a kill by Rauly Eason gave Harding the set win.
· Third Set (Harding 25, Southwest Baptist 16): Harding jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the third set. Southwest Baptist battled back to pull within three 18-15 but Harding went on a 7-1 run to win the set.
The Lady Bisons' offense was led by a duo of attackers. Ella Drake and Jacey Lambert each had nine kills. Rauly Eason hit .500 in the match with seven kills.
Olivia Wiedower orchestrated the offense with 30 assists and led the team with a career-high five service aces. Maddie Burrough anchored the defense, tallying a match-high 18 digs. Carter Fouche also had a strong performance with 10 digs and three service aces.
The Lady Bisons finished with 12 service aces. It was the third time this season Harding has had over 10 aces in a match.
The Bearcats struggled to find their rhythm, finishing with a team hitting percentage of -.043. Hannah Jackson and Gabriela Dupree led the Bearcats with five kills each.
The Lady Bisons will look to continue their winning ways Friday, when they host Trevecca Nazarene at 5 p.m., at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
