No. 2 Bisons Sit Atop Super Region 4 in Inaugural NPI, Dominate National Rankings Heading into Week 8

SEARCY, Ark. — Fresh off an emphatic 46-16 rout of No. 15 Henderson State in a clash of unbeatens, the second-ranked Harding football team enters Week 8 firmly established as one of NCAA Division II's premier championship contenders.

The undefeated Bisons (7-0, 7-0 Great American Conference) find themselves prominently positioned across every major national metric, securing the No. 1 ranking in Super Region 4 in the NCAA's inaugural NCAA Power Index (NPI) release, maintaining their consensus No. 2 national poll standing, and leading the country in multiple statistical categories on both sides of the ball.

Bisons Claim No. 1 Spot in Super Region 4 in Inaugural NPI Release

Harding made a major statement in the NCAA's newly implemented postseason metric, checking in at No. 2 overall in Division II and No. 1 in Super Region 4 with an NPI rating of 65.624.

The NPI is the NCAA's newly adopted objective, mathematical system designed to select and seed the postseason field for the NCAA Division II Football Championship, officially replacing the subjective regional advisory committee ranking ballots. Calculated entirely on verified game data, the formula accounts for winning percentage, strength of schedule, quality win bonuses (QWB), and home/away weighting (awarding added value to road triumphs).

Harding's 65.624 rating trails only Super Region 1 leader Slippery Rock (66.161) across all 159 Division II football programs. More importantly, the Bisons hold the pole position in a loaded Super Region 4 race, leading fellow regional contenders CSU Pueblo (No. 4 nationally, 63.751 NPI), Emporia State (No. 6, 62.666), Northwest Missouri State (No. 9, 60.103), Western Colorado (No. 14, 59.525), Central Washington (No. 18, 58.715), Central Missouri (No. 21, 57.659), and East Central (No. 22, 57.561).

Poll Dominance: 97 Consecutive Weeks Ranked in Top 25

Harding maintained its consensus No. 2 national ranking in both major Division II polls on Monday, holding the second spot in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Coaches Poll and the D2Football.com Top 25 Media Poll.

The ranking extends Harding's active streak to 97 consecutive weeks ranked in the AFCA national top 25, standing as one of the longest continuous poll runs in all of college football. Harding has now been ranked in the national top five in 35 consecutive poll releases dating back to the 2023 season.
