LOUISVILLE, Ky. — 5th-year runner Dinah Winders and 1st-year Jacobi Ruiz led the Harding women's cross-country team to an eighth-place team finish in the Women's 5K Gold race at the Live in Lou Louisville Classic on Saturday morning at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.
Competing against a premier 24-team field featuring high-level Division I and Division II competition, the Lady Bisons totaled 264 points and a collective time of 1:33:16.00 (18:39.20 average). Harding finished ahead of multiple Division I programs, including Western Kentucky (274), Loyola Maryland (318), Morehead State (356), Northern Kentucky (368), South Florida (379), and Duquesne (380), while also besting regional contender Mississippi College (342).
Division II No. 1-ranked West Texas A&M claimed the team title with 34 points, followed by Lee (Tenn.) in second with 100 points and Division I East Tennessee State in third with 168 points. Marshall's Rachael Withrow captured the individual crown with a time of 16:26.4.
Winders paced the Lady Bisons across the line, placing 36th overall in the 241-runner field with a time of 18:18.9. Ruiz crossed less than four seconds later, clocking 18:22.7 to take 42nd place.
A pair of 1st-year runners followed closely in the top 60, with Harper Counts placing 54th in 18:41.7 and Elle Williamson taking 60th in 18:44.1. 4th-year Jessica Chappell completed the scoring five for Harding, crossing the line in 100th place with a time of 19:08.6.
3rd-year Zoe Williamson (144th, 19:38.4) and 1st-year Hailey Von Willer (149th, 19:39.9) served as displacers in the team standings. 2nd-year Addison Lyles also competed for Harding, finishing 155th in 19:42.5.
Harding returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 10, traveling to Clarksville, Arkansas, to run in the University of the Ozarks Invitational.
