No. 24 Bisons Stay Perfect with Regional Road Win at Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The 24th-ranked Harding men's tennis team passed its first major road test of the season Friday night, defeating regional power Drury University 4-1 at the Cooper Tennis Complex.

The Bisons (3-0) took advantage of a clean sweep in doubles play and resilient performance at the top of the singles lineup to secure the win. The victory keeps Harding perfect on the young season and marks the first road win for head coach Craig Kirchgessner.

Harding set the tone early by capturing the doubles point. The No. 1 tandem of Edoardo D'Arrigo and Sebastian De La Salas earned a 6-4 win to get the Bisons on the board. The No. 3 pairing of Cian Mikkelsen and Luis Agullo followed with a 6-4 victory of their own to clinch the point. Completing the sweep, the 23rd-ranked duo of Florian Gayme and Jan Alexander Has outlasted Drury's Chuy Gonzalez and Tristan Stock 7-5 at the No. 2 spot.

In singles play, the Bisons had to weather a push from the Panthers. Drury earned its lone point at No. 2 singles where Matthieu Gachon defeated Mikkelsen 6-1, 6-4.

However, Harding responded quickly. Freshman Jan Alexander Has continued his impressive debut campaign, improving to 3-0 in dual matches with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Marco Romano at No. 3. At the top of the lineup, No. 31-ranked Sebastian De La Salas battled through a tight second set to defeat Gonzalez 6-4, 7-6, putting the Bisons on the brink of victory.

Junior Caleb Folse provided the clincher at No. 4 singles, defeating Tristan Stock 6-4, 6-2 to secure the fourth and final point needed for the dual win. Matches at No. 5 and No. 6 were left unfinished once the team result was decided.

The Bisons displayed efficient depth across the board, moving to an 11-2 combined record in doubles play this spring. Sebastian De La Salas and Jan Alexander Has both remain undefeated in singles dual-match play (3-0).

Harding will have a week off before returning to action on Friday, Feb. 13. The Bisons are scheduled to travel to Fort Smith, Arkansas, to open MIAA/GAC North-South divisional play against Arkansas-Fort Smith.
