SEARCY, Ark. – The Harding softball team used a dominant pitching and a four-run third inning to complete a three-game Great American Conference sweep of Henderson State with a 6-0 victory Sunday at Ingram Field.
With the win, Harding (11-12, 6-3 GAC) secured its second conference sweep of the season and moved above .500 in league play. Henderson State fell to 9-11 overall and 3-6 in the GAC.
Gobble (6-8) got the win in relief for Harding. She threw 3.1 innings didn't allow a run and only allowed two hits. Avery Booker started and threw 3.2 innings. She gave up three hits and struck out five. It was the first time the two pitchers have combined for a shutout this season.
The Lady Bisons' had a four-run explosion in the bottom of the third inning. Payton Alexander sparked the rally, scoring the game's first run on an RBI single by Tori Turner.
The inning unraveled for the Reddies following a sacrifice bunt by Bailey Robinson; a throwing error by the Henderson State catcher allowed both Turner and Logan Ringel to cross the plate, extending the lead to 3-0. Zoey Neal capped the frame with a sacrifice bunt that scored Robinson.
Harding added two insurance runs in the fifth. Robinson reached base and eventually scored on a Neal single through the right side. Moments later, Alexis Boswell drove in Neal with an RBI single to left field to provide the final 6-0 margin.
Henderson State's Jersey Cabana (3-6) took the loss, allowing four runs all unearned on six hits over four innings.
The Lady Bisons will be back in action next weekend when it hosts East Central in a three-game GAC series. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. Before Friday's contest, Harding will dedicate the Lindy Lunceford Ingram Field. The ceremony will be broadcasted on the HU16.
