SEARCY, Ark. – Freshman Henry Heilmann turned the Ted and Marcie Lloyd Track Complex into his personal playground the last two days, capturing the decathlon title with an NCAA provisional qualifying score of 6,825 points at the Harding Multi and Bryan Phillips Invitational.
Heilmann's performance led a 1-2 finish for the No. 5-ranked Bisons, as teammate Isaac Pratt secured the runner-up spot with 6,307 points.
Heilmann's Path to Gold
Heilmann was the model of consistency across the 10-event gauntlet, posting the top mark in five separate disciplines. After ending Day 1 with a narrow lead, he slammed the door shut on Friday by winning the 110-meter hurdles (15.89), the discus (38.47m), and the 1,500-meter run (4:45.64). His high-flying 1.90m high jump on Thursday remains one of the meet's top highlights.
Pratt, also a freshman, showcased elite speed by winning the 100-meter dash (10.97) and the 400-meter dash (50.03). He shared the top spot in the hurdles with Heilmann, as both Bisons crossed the line in identical 15.89-second efforts.
Central Arkansas' Levi Dugger finished third overall (6,276), while Harding freshman Elijah Smith placed sixth with 5,333 points.
Green Sets Facility Record in Hammer Throw
While the multi-event athletes were wrapping up their 1,500-meter grind, the heavy metal was flying in the hammer circle. Central Arkansas continued its dominant weekend in the throws, sweeping the top three spots.
Senior Treavor Green took the title with a massive toss of 61.17m (200-08), establishing a new facility record. He narrowly edged teammate Jaden Schneeberger, who also cleared the 60-meter mark (60.83m).
Freshman Nate Rivers led the charge for the Bisons, finishing fifth overall. Rivers uncorked a throw of 51.63m (169-05) on his fifth attempt to secure a top-five finish in a field loaded with Division I talent. Other Bison competitors included Tytus Daugherty (13th, 42.67m) and Dawson Church (16th, 38.88m).
Saturday Outlook
The Bryan Phillips Invitational moves into its final day of competition Saturday. Field events are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. with the women's javelin. Running events will kick off at 2:30 p.m. with the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
