Harding Women's Tennis Rallies to Edge Arkansas Tech in Regular Season Finale

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Harding concluded its regular season on a high note Friday, rallying from an early deficit to secure a 4-3 victory over Arkansas Tech at the Chartwell's Complex.

The win moves the Lady Bisons to 6-12 overall and 3-2 in Great American Conference play as they prepare for the postseason. Arkansas Tech falls to 8-7 overall and 1-3 against conference opponents.

Doubles Struggle

Arkansas Tech opened the afternoon by securing the doubles point. While Harding's third-flight duo of Sofia Sarmiento Ruiz and Ece Boylu earned a 6-4 win over Nayara Alvarez and Zayla Ware, the Golden Suns proved too much at the top two positions. The Tech tandem of Rebecca Arnold and Elis Gergel edged out the Lady Bisons' No. 1 pair of Brooke Coffman and Karli Roux, 6-4, while Natalya Montoya and Lucia Perez clinched the point for the hosts with a 6-2 win at No. 2.

Singles Comeback

Facing a 1-0 deficit, Harding responded with a strong performance in singles play, capturing four of the six matches to seal the victory.

  • Top Flight: Nationally-ranked Karli Roux continued her stellar season, cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Elis Gergel at No. 1. She won her sixth straight singles match and the 70th of her career, becoming only the sixth Lady Bison with 70 or more career singles wins.

  • Clutch Performance: In a tightly contested match at No. 2, Brooke Coffman battled to defeat Lucia Perez, 7-6, 6-1, providing a critical point for the Lady Bisons.

  • Depth Success: Ece Boylu maintained her momentum with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4, and Paula Rega overcame a second-set stumble to close out Zayla Ware 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 at the No. 6 position.

Arkansas Tech picked up singles points at No. 3, where Natalya Montoya defeated Natalia Alvarez, and at No. 5, where Nayara Alvarez rallied to beat Mia Hosking.

Postseason Outlook

With the regular season in the books, Harding now turns its attention to the GAC Tournament. The Lady Bisons are projected to enter the bracket as the No. 3 seed. The tournament is scheduled to take place May 1-3 at Memorial Park in Bentonville, Arkansas.
