RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Brooklyn Gobble dealt one of her better games of the season Thursday, striking out nine Arkansas Tech batters in six innings, but the Lady Bisons could not generate any offense against Golden Suns ace Aly White in a 3-0 GAC loss.
Gobble (15-13) held Arkansas Tech to four hits and two earned runs, working efficiently through a Golden Suns lineup that entered the game with one of the best records in the GAC.
White (12-4) walked none and struck out three in an 84-pitch gem, keeping the Lady Bisons off the scoreboard despite Harding collecting six hits. She retired 15 batters on ground balls, giving Harding little room to manufacture any offense.
Harding (24-18, 19-9 GAC) had hits in five of seven innings but left only four runners on base. Logan Ringel led the Lady Bisons at the plate, going 2 for 3. Alexis Boswell doubled in the seventh inning to give Harding its best scoring chance of the game, but Bailey Willis was retired to end the threat.
Arkansas Tech (35-12, 22-6 GAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Miya Curry reached on a hit by pitch and stole second, and after Aubree Jones walked, White pushed both runners into scoring position with a bunt single. Caroline Wilhelm then lined a two-run single through the left side, scoring Curry and Jones.
Arkansas Tech padded the lead with an unearned run in the sixth inning. Wilhelm walked and advanced to third on a fielding error by Harding. A sacrifice fly by Sharlee Jackson plated Wilhelm to make it 3-0. Wilhelm finished 2 for 2 with a double, a walk and two RBIs.
The two teams will wrap up their series Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon.
