MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. — The Harding Lady Bisons opened the Spring Region Preview on Sunday with a 24-over 312, placing them ninth in a crowded 17-team field at the Shangri-La Country Club.
The tournament, hosted by Central Missouri, features several of the top-ranked teams in the Central Region. No. 32 Arkansas Tech leads the field after 18 holes with a 7-over 295, followed closely by Northwest Missouri (+9) and Washburn (+12). Harding sits just eight strokes back of a top-four position, currently held by a three-way tie between No. 46 Central Oklahoma, No. 33 Central Missouri, and No. 29 Rogers State, all at 16-over.
Conditions at Monkey Island were ideal for the opening round, with sunny skies and temperatures reaching a pleasant 72 degrees. Winds were light out of the south at 5-10 mph, allowing for aggressive play on the Heritage and Legends nines.
Junior Sydney Kincade led the way for the Lady Bisons, carding a 1-over 73. Kincade's steady round, highlighted by a 1-under 35 on the back nine, has her in a tie for seventh place individually. She trails the individual leader by only three strokes heading into Monday's second round.
Senior Madeleine Wilson also posted a strong score, finishing with a 2-over 74 to sit in a tie for 12th. Wilson was model of consistency, carding an even-par 36 on the back nine to keep Harding within striking distance of the leaders.
Vivian Volion shot a 10-over 82 (T62), while Macy Cooper and Pilar Martinez both finished with 11-over 83s (T70) to round out the team scoring.
The second round of the 54-hole event is scheduled to begin Monday morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
