SEARCY, Ark. – Sophomore Hayes Cox captured a dramatic victory in the decathlon and senior Anton Kopytko led a dominant showing in the jumps as the No. 8-ranked Harding Bisons built a massive lead Friday at the Great American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
With two days of competition complete, the Bisons have officially broken the century mark, totaling 117 points—a 50-point cushion over second-place Oklahoma Baptist.
Decathlon Drama
The most intense battle of the day occurred in the multi-events, where teammates Hayes Cox and Henry Heilmann went wire-to-wire. Cox entered the final event—the 1,500 meters—with a slim lead and managed to hold off a charging Heilmann to claim the victory with 6,715 points. Heilmann finished just 12 points behind with 6,703 points to take second.
Cox's victory was anchored by field event consistency and a blistering 10.68 in the 100 meters. Freshman Isaac Pratt added a sixth-place finish (5,668 points), giving Harding 21 total points in the event.
