SEARCY, Ark. — Despite outshooting its opponent and generating relentless pressure throughout the afternoon, the Harding women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Southern Nazarene Wednesday at Stevens Soccer Complex.
Harding (2-4-1, 1-1-0 GAC) broke a scoreless tie in the 79th minute when a dangerous cross into the box deflected off a defender for an own goal. Southern Nazarene (3-4-1, 2-1-0 GAC) answered with late-game heroics, as Danika Womack netted two goals in a three-minute span—first curling an 85th-minute free kick into the top right corner, then buried the game-winner off a pass from Kate Beard in the 87th minute.
The Lady Bisons held a 21-9 advantage in shots and forced 11 saves from Crimson Storm goalkeeper Madaline Bullard, but were unable to extend their lead during a dominant first half that saw Harding take eight corner kicks while holding Southern Nazarene to zero.
Harding goalkeeper Emerson Simmons finished with three saves in the loss.
Harding will look to rebound on Saturday when the Lady Bisons travel to Shawnee, Oklahoma, to face Oklahoma Baptist at 1 p.m.
