AT HARDING
Derrick joined the Harding staff in 2024 after eight seasons away from the coaching profession.

- Harding has a 12-2 record in Derrick's time at Harding and has made one NCAA Division II Playoffs appearance ... has coached in three postseason games for Harding.
- Harding led NCAA Division II in passing efficiency in 2024.
BEFORE HARDING
Derrick coached at Harding Academy of Memphis from 1997-2015.
He began is time there as an assistant under former Bison Jerry Escue in 1997. From 1998-2005, Derrick was an assistant under current Harding head coach Paul Simmons before taking the head coaching job.
Derrick was Harding Academy's head coach from 2006-15 and compiled a 72-42 record, becoming the school's career wins leader on Aug. 30, 2013, during his eighth season. Derrick led Harding Academy to nine state playoff appearances that included three state semifinal runs, the state runner-up in 2008 and two district championships.
Derrick received the 2008 Tennessee Coach's Award, coached defensive backs at the Liberty Bowl All-Star Game in 2009 and 2012, and coached running back at the 2009 Under Armour All-America Game.
PLAYING CAREER
Derrick was a four-year letterman at Harding University as a quarterback and safety. He had the distinction of starting on both sides of the ball during his junior season.
EDUCATION
Derrick earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Harding University in 1997.
FAMILY
A native of Dexter, New Mexico, he is married to the former Kelley Adams, of Memphis, Tennessee. The couple have two children–Ryley and Kolton.
