Originally founded in 1880 as a stop on the Texas and St. Louis Railway, the town was almost named "Brakeman" in honor of the railroad workers. The local citizens voted instead to name it Omaha after the major Nebraska city, hoping that adopting the famous name would inspire their tiny, rural Texas railroad settlement to grow into a massive, bustling metropolis ...
