Jeff Morgan

At Harding
Jeff Morgan is in his fourth year as Harding's athletic director in 2022-23. He is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Harding’s 18-team athletic department.

Morgan is entering his 30th season as the Bisons’ head coach in 2022-23. He has a career record of 458-382 and a 441-372 mark at Harding. Morgan is the fourth head men’s basketball coach since Harding restarted basketball in 1957. He currently ranks fourth in career victories among coaches at Arkansas colleges, trailing only Don Dyer (601), Bill Vining (520) and Cliff Garrison (463).

Morgan is the longest tenured coach in Great American Conference and ranks in the top 20 in career victories among active NCAA Division II coaches.

Morgan serves as a representative for the GAC men’s basketball coaches on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Congress. He served on the NCAA Division II men’s basketball championships committee for four years and wass the chairman of the men’s basketball Central Region advisory committee.

Morgan has led his teams to 21 postseason tournament appearances, including nine Gulf South Conference Tournament appearances and seven GAC Tournament appearances, six NCAA Division II national tournaments and to one NAIA national tournament. His Bisons reached the national tournament in 1996, 2003, 2008, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2016.

Morgan led Harding to regular-season championships in 2008, 2013 and 2016, and his 2014 team won the GAC Tournament championship as the No. 5 seed. The 2011 team finished the season ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division II.

Morgan’s Bisons were named the Gulf South Conference West Division Team of the Decade from 2000-10.

Morgan has coached more games (813) and has more wins (441) than any other Harding men’s basketball coach.

Morgan has 16 career victories over nationally ranked teams, including two victories over the No. 2-ranked team in the country—Montevallo in 2004 and Alabama-Huntsville in 2012.

In his time at Harding, Morgan’s players have received 38 all-conference, 21 all-region, seven all-America, and six conference player-of-the-year honors. The Bisons have garnered 56 academic all-conference, nine academic all-district and three academic all-America honors.

Additionally, Morgan has had numerous players continue their careers in overseas basketball leagues. Jacob Gibson is the most recent to play oversees, playing in Australia, Romania and Portugal.

Prior to Harding
Morgan was the head coach at West Texas A&M for the 1992-93 season and compiled a 17-10 record.

Playing Career
Morgan began his collegiate playing career at York College, where he set the school record for assists. He played his final two years at West Texas A&M, earning Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Education
Morgan received his bachelor’s degree from West Texas A&M in 1989 and his master’s degree in 1992.

Family
Morgan and his wife Christy have three children—Davis, Emma and Ellie.
