SEARCY - Harding junior forward
Connor Galloway scored on a penalty kick with 2:40 left in double overtime to lift the Bisons to a 2-1 victory over Delta State in Gulf South Conference action Friday at First Security Stadium.
The victory was Harding's first in GSC play and kept the Bisons in the mix for one of four GSC Tournament spots in the six-team conference. Delta State remained winless in conference play.
Galloway, a native of Normal, Ill., opened the scoring in the 20th minute when he drilled a low shot past Delta State goalkeeper Flavio Romero following
Drew Nowlin's corner kick.
Harding (4-11-0, 1-2-0) maintained its lead for nearly 70 minutes before Aaron Wilbanks scored his first goal of the season for Delta State (3-8-0, 0-2-0) on a blast from the top of the 18-yard box with just over a minute left in regulation.
Neither team scored in the first 10-minute overtime period. In the second overtime, Harding had a free kick to the left of the Delta State penalty area. As soon as Harding took the free kick, Delta State was whistled for a foul in the box committed against Harding forward
Phillip McCormick.
Galloway's ensuing penalty kick beat Romero low and inside the left post. It was the second time this season that Harding won an overtime game on a penalty kick in double overtime. The first came on a Nowlin penalty kick goal against Texas-Tyler on Sept. 12 that gave Harding a 1-0 victory.
Galloway leads the Bisons with seven goals this season.
