DENTON, Texas – Despite forward Bailey St. Clair scoring 26 points, the Harding women's basketball team fell to Texas Woman's Monday night, 74-70. The Lady Bisons fall to 0-2 on the season.
St. Clair, a junior transfer from Lubbock Christian, went 10-0f-12 from the field and hit 6-of-7 free throws to lead the Lady Bisons. She scored 16 of her 26 points in the first half.
With 2:05 remaining in the game, senior Stacey Owens hit a three-pointer to put the Lady Bisons up by one. Pioneers answered a minute later on a layup by Megan Hashman to give Texas Woman's back the lead. The Lady Bisons had a chance to regain the lead on a Harding three-pointer with 1:44 left, but the attempted failed. Texas Woman's hit a jumper and a converted on two free-throws to give them a five point lead with 27 seconds left. The Lady Bisons wouldn't go away without a fight as Danielle Reiher hit a jumper in the paint to pull the Lady Bisons within three. A Harding foul lead the Pioneers to the free-throw line in which Kayla Weaver hit 1-of-2 free-throws to seal the win.
Freshman guard Elizabeth Nagel was the only other Lady Bison in double-figure scoring with 10 points. Reiher led the Lady Bisons on boards with eight.
Texas Woman's had five players in double-figure scoring; leading the way was Tiandrea Dixon who had 16 points.
The Pioneers hit 24-of-30 free-throws to the Lady Bisons 15-of-27.
Harding outshot Texas Woman's, hitting 26-of-57 shots from the field. The Lady Bisons committed 27 turnovers and had 12 steals.
Between the two teams, 27 three pointers were taken only seven of them were made.
The Lady Bisons travel to Pensacola, Fla., to take part in the West Florida Classic. Harding will play Lynn at 4 p.m., on Friday and take on host team West Florida at 4 p.m., on Saturday.
