SEARCY – The Harding women's basketball team looks for two straight as they host Gulf South Conference East Division foe West Georgia Saturday night in non-conference action at 5:30 p.m., in the Rhodes Field House. The Lady Bisons head into the game with a 1-4 record.
COACHES: Harding is coached by Tim Kirby, who enters his fifth season at the helm of the Lady Bisons. Kirby has a 70-49 career record. Kirby took over the Lady Bison program before the 2005-06 season after serving 12 seasons as the Harding's men's basketball assistant.
West Georgia is coached by Craig Roden, who enters his 14th season with the Wolves. Roden has a 168-134 record at West Georgia and a 258-247 career record over 18 seasons.
THE LADY BISONS: Harding is coming off their first win of the season against Central Baptist. The Lady Bisons defeated the Lady Mustangs, 88-46. Junior transfer Bailey St. Clair had a game high 20 points and 17 rebounds. Her 17 rebounds were the most since fellow teammate Stacey Owens had 17 against West Alabama in 2007.
St. Clair leads the Lady Bisons, averaging 18 points per game which ranks seventh in the GSC. She also averages seven rebounds per game, ranking her 12th in the GSC. St. Clair is shooting a team high 56.9 percent from the floor. She also leads the GSC in steals per game with an average of 3.2.
Senior Stacey Owens is the other Lady Bison that averages double-figure scoring, averaging 15 points per game.
Harding returns five players from the 2008-09 season. The Lady Bisons have eight new faces this year, seven of them are transfers. Six of the Harding newcomers have already made their debut for the Lady Bisons.
THE WOLVES: West Georgia is from Carrollton, Ga., and is a member of the GSC East Division. The Wolves return four players from the 2008-09 squad, none of which were starters. The Wolves finished first in the GSC East Division with a 22-7 overall record, and a 10-2 East Division record.
West Georgia is coming off a 57-51 victory over Benedict this past Tuesday night.
The Wolves are led by Kim Jones, a 6-2 junior transfer from Florida Gulf Coast Community College, is averaging a double-double for West Georgia with 13 points per game and 10.8 rebounds a game. Anelia Murray also averages double-figures, added 12.3 points per game for the Wolves.
West Georgia leads the GSC in scoring defense as they have held their opponents to under 49 points per game.
SERIES: Harding and West Georgia are meeting for the first time despite being in the same conference.
