HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Harding women's basketball team had 14 steals and forced 25 turnovers en-route to a 49-45 win over Alabama-Huntsville Saturday in Huntsville, Ala. It was the Lady Bisons first road win of the season as they move to 7-4 on the season.
Senior Stacey Owens picked up her first double-double of the season and led Harding in scoring with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
With 1:53 left to go in the game, sophomore Lindsey Root hit a lay-up to give the Lady Bisons a five point lead. Two possessions later, Alabama-Huntsville cut the Harding lead to three on a lay-up with 1:06 left. In the closing minute, the Lady Chargers had two chances to tie the game but both three-pointers missed. Owens sealed the win for the Lady Bisons hitting one of two free throws.
Junior Bailey St. Clair added 11 points for Harding and added 3 steals.
Monica Boatwright led the Lady Chargers with 18 points. Renita Lewis led Alabama-Huntsville on the boards, grabbing 12.
Eight of the twelve players that played in the game had a steal for the Lady Bisons.
The Lady Bisons out-rebounded the Lady Chargers, 52-39. It was the second time this season Harding has had over 50 rebounds in a game.
Harding continues their road skid heading to Florence, Ala., to face North Alabama Monday at 8 p.m.
